Bootloader

They say condemn the sin and not the sinner and then I haven't had much disgrunts about Windows if I think back of the days when I was purely a Windows dudette. I do prefer OS X over Windows but not so much so that I'd let bashing Win XP dominate my days here on this earth. But why did I do this one?

I've gone back to dual booting as you may well know. I've no idea what went wrong but PC_EFI alone wouldn't do the dual boot trick for which I turned to chain0.

Setting it couldn't be easier, and in XP too:

1) Download and unzip chain0 to C:\ - or whatever drive your XP installation currently resides.

2) Go to My Computer > Properties > Advanced tab > Settings. And from the System startup section, click on Edit:

3) Notepad should open boot.ini file with texts similar to the ff:

[boot loader]
timeout=15
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

4) Add the ff. line:

C:\chain0="Mac OS X"

5) Close and save the file when prompted.

You can make some changes to make things a little more interesting. Here's what I did on mine not because I hate Windows but just for kicks:

hi.

I was looking for a way to get in touch with you.
wanted to thank you for the wonderful job you did.

I was able to install OSx on my new Compaq Mini 700.

I love how well it runs.
I was a former EEE owner and tried that but it works awfully on that netbook.
the touchpad is the main issue and the keyboard too.
the mini keyb is just amazing.

well...
here's a pic of my baby

You're welcome and I'm glad you're finding this blog useful ; although of course, not all the work here is my doing - I've had lots of ideas and help coming from myhpmini, insanelymac, and msiwind and of course - google :D
I too once owned an Eee - from the original 701 to the 900. I still own an MSI Wind but I agree with you that the Mini is just a beautiful machine :)
Oh and btw, I posted your baby's pic on the blog.

I re-installed everything and now I have chameleon 2.0rc1 with xp/osx dual boot.
everything works fine, but i think you should adjust your latest tutorial which includes 10.5.7 update.
basically the section where you say to apply the kexts in sequence can easily break your startup.
I solved starting with -s and manually deleting the video kexts.

the only files I used from your archives are the ones in MacOSX_HPMini1001TU.zip

I just applied the kexts (all together).
DSDT (I have 2 GB and couldn't have the sleep funct work well).
VoodooPS2Controller

works like a charm now. :)

here's the screenshots for chameleon 2.0rc1 multi-boot (no chain0 needed)

ps: I also removed the little film behind the camera bezel.
sooooooo much better.

Removing that film really does a lot good for the Mini's webcam.
So you're on Chameleon 2.0 right now; I actually haven't upgraded to 2.0rc for fear of breaking sleep/resume (I think I'd read somewhere about having 2.0rc but no sleep - then again I may be wrong.)

But if I understood right, you're saying you've got sleep/resume sorted out even on chameleon 2.0rc and with 2 gigs ram as well?

Also thanks for the feedback on the update how-to post, I think I'll write a new one including the point you stated in a new post when I wipe-out-reinstall (for the Nth time): I wanna try chameleon 2.0rc.

I wonder how boot time fares with it compared to the older version. :D

Cheers,
